I was watching The Real Daytime TV Show the other day and someone on the show mentioned that after a certain age, women start getting random hairs popping up in random places on our bodies, ie. chin, mole on thigh, ears, etc. I laughed because I have always been hairy [inserts shoulder shrug emoji]. And because of my early mindfulness of my own body hair, I learned early the power of a razor–and how it is imperative to keep a fresh razor at all times. I also learned early that those facial razors are not just for eyebrow hair, but can be used for giving my entire face some supple and soft skin.

Aha Moment

One day, I was using a razor to clean up the hairs around my eyebrows, and then decided to venture outside the eyebrow zone and I kept shaving beyond the eyebrows into my cheeks, down my chin, across my lip and back up the other side towards my nose. Once I was done, I had literally “shaved” my entire face. I used one of those straight edge beauty razors with the handle, and made sure to not apply too much pressure while doing this. And let me tell you…when I was done, I had the smoothest baby soft skin. This was almost 20 years ago, and since that day, I made shaving my face a part of my beauty routine.

Oh You Didn’t Know?

Then, I remember when all of this craze started a few years ago about the latest beauty secret called “shaving face” to have smoother skin. This is also known as dermaplaning. I was like…um…that’s a new thing? I thought all hairy people knew to shave their face, but then I remembered my own self discovery. Now, I can’t speak on random hairs popping up all over, but I can tell you that when I shave my face, it gives my skin a smoother surface and it allows products to go on more evenly.  My skin also has an overall glow once I’m done with this part of my beauty regimen. To do this, I use only my lathered up face soap and the beauty razor and gently shave along the curves of my face removing all of the peach fuzz and revealing a glowing smooth surface. I basically do this whenever I am shaping my eyebrows.

I’ve been doing this for YEARS, and my hair texture on my eyebrows and face have always been the same as when I first started this routine – but then again, my body hair has always been thick, so don’t go by my hair. If anything, shaving has helped my skin to maintain its smooth surface because it is basically lightly exfoliating the dead skin cells. It’s not for everyone but it’s a mainstay for me. Please don’t do this if you are clumsy with a razor. I’m basically a shaving expert now because I’ve been doing this forever, so I know how much pressure to apply around my eyebrows and other areas of my face.

Have you tried this beauty trend? Shaving face is not a trend for me. People are paying big bucks to get this done professionally, so apparently it’s working out for someone. I save my coins and do it myself. Do you think this is a beauty secret or is this already part of your beauty routine?
