I am doing everything in my power to make sure that I’m as healthy as can be during these times. This means getting in some type of exercise, eating healthy as possible and making sure my immune system is strong.

I made a batch of immune booster shots on Sunday while listening to a D-Nice Instagram Live session. I’ve researched and used all of these ingredients that I’m sharing, and they all legit work for me.

Shots! Shots! Shots!

So, what exactly is in an immune booster shot? It’s just a bunch of ingredients that are full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help to boost your immune system. It’s basically a big boost of vitamin C and other goodness for your body.

I’ve made variations of immune booster shots before, but with the ‘Rona in full session, I’ve added in a lil’ something extra…you know a lil’ somethin’ to give my system an extra boost.

How Much to Make

I wouldn’t make more than a weeks’ worth at a time, because you want to make sure the ingredients remain fresh. I made 12 shots (6 days’ worth for 2 people). The amount of ingredients you use will vary by how many shots you plan to make.

Ingredients

Forgive my bootleg instructions, but I’m not a cook nor one of those precise (in the kitchen) type people. So, just use your own judgement or google a more exact (similar) recipe if you are looking for more detailed measurements. I’ve been making these shots for so long that I mostly just eyeball and taste the ingredients. Here are the ingredients I use.

For 12 Shots

(Note: amounts vary by the number of shots you are making)

• Oranges (About 5-6)
• Lemons (About 4-5)
• Apple Cider Vinegar (About 1/4 cup)
• Ginger Root (1 whole root–chopped up)
• Cayenne (Approx 2-3 hard dashes of powder)
• Tumeric (Approx 2 hard dashes of powder)
• Cinnamon (Approx 2-3 hard dashes powder)
• Black Pepper (1 dash)
• Bonus : Propolis (2-3 drops per shot)
• Water: Optional (Use water to dilute or stretch your ingredients – I used 1/4 cup for 12 shots)

Prep and Other Steps

The amount of time it takes to make these shots depends on how much you are making. Here’s how to make it.

  1. Cut the oranges and lemons to easily squeeze or “juice” them (make sure that no seeds end up on the juice)
  2. Peel and cut up 1 whole ginger root into small cubes. Then add it to the freshly squeezed juice
  3. Add in the apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, turmeric, cinnamon and black pepper. Add in any bonus ingredients: I added Propolis, but use whatever boosting ingredient you have. One of my friends mentioned she is taking elderberry now, so I may try that next time.
  4. Pour all of the ingredients into the blender cup, and blend until it appears uniform and mixed. You can adjust the taste with your ingredients as you go. So, as you are blending, stop and taste it especially if this is your first time making immune booster shots.
  5. Then if you have cute little 2oz bottles like me, you can pour the mix into the bottles. If you don’t have small individual containers, pour the mix in a larger bottle to store it.
  6. Refrigerate the shots after mixing.

Side note: I have a Ninja blender, so for 12 shots, I just put all the ingredients in the largest cup size and blend it together until everything looks thoroughly mixed.

Drink Up

Make sure to thoroughly shake up your immune booster shot to mix the ingredients before you drink it. If you don’t have small bottles, just pour the shot from your larger container into a shot glass and drink it.

Benefits

If you look at the separate ingredients, you’ll see the benefit of each. Then combine them together and BAM! You have a super booster shot! I even have a little pep in my step after I drink mine.

Oranges are a great source of vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber.

Lemons are full of vitamin C. It also helps to flush out and eliminate any toxins from the body.

Ginger is anti-inflammatory and an anti-oxidant.

Apple Cider Vinegar has many antimicrobial properties, so it’s able to kill off bad germs.

Cayenne Pepper boosts metabolism.

Turmeric is anti-inflammatory and an anti-oxidant. It helps to fight off viral infections.

Cinnamon is anti-inflammatory and high in anti-oxidants. It also increases blood circulation.

Black Pepper helps with absorption.

*Propolis is known to kill off bacteria, viruses and fungi. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

So, there you have it!

Hopefully this recipe was helpful because I want us all to stay healthy and build strong immune systems.  Let me know if you have your own immune booster shot recipe. I love trying new drink concoctions.

Stay healthy and stay home!
