I am so hungry…I just saw some good scones online that my friend just posted. A few of my friends love to post food pictures on social media, and I love to salivate over their pics.
Relax…I’m Not the One Cooking
Food porn is a real thing. Where is this going you ask…Well, I was complimenting one of my friends on her food pictures, and I told her that I’ve noticed she’s been cooking a lot during quarantine. She agreed, and said she cooks because it relaxes her. I was in awe because I never knew she liked to cooked, and also because cooking stresses me out! I literally DO NOT like cooking. I don’t hate it, I just don’t like it. When I cook, it’s for survival (and craving) purposes…not to relax. And I actually don’t mind making and sharing SIMPLE, EASY recipes…but once you start going beyond five ingredients and “watching the food”…I tend to back away from the kitchen. This further confirms that people’s interests are so different, and this is what makes us so unique and special. What you may feel is something that is simple might be quite impressive and admirable to someone else. I came across this article on delish.com that features food bloggers if you want some good food inspiration. I just love (to eat) good food! So shout out to all the cooks out there!
Back to Art
Just as cooking food may relax some people, creating art (at random) relaxes me. Sometimes I’ll be making something and look up, and half the day is gone. So lately, I’ve been drawing these stylized, kinda abstract women, and it has been so relaxing to me. My new iPad has opened up an entire world of digital art that I never knew about. I’m learning so much. I’ve always loved digital art and using shapes to create compositions, but drawing digitally (by hand using an Apple pencil) takes things to another level. It’s so fun!
Anyway, I wanted to share some of the women I’ve been drawing…I call them my “Melanin Muses“.
Relax for a Moment
With so much uncertainty and tension in the world, it is imperative to find some kind of way to relax and be free for a moment. We all deserve a moment to ourselves to unwind. Cooking and drawing are just two different ways to relax, but you have to find your own thing. Creating art is not the only way I relax, but it is probably the most convenient and least expensive way for me right now. I also relax numerous other ways, such as by writing, or just sitting outside (on my deck lately) with a delicious glass of wine…although I would like to be relaxing on a tropical island, but you get the point.
What is you go-to way to relax? Let me know!
xo,
Che
